Final reactions of Jane Eyre

1. The thing that i found most useful while reading this book were the many class discussions we had about it in between each reading section. They helped me understand the book a lot more and see other points of views from it.
2. The large amounts of reading really made finishing the book and understanding every part of it hard to do, but i managed.
3. I think this book should be taught again because its not necessarily the greatest book to read but everything you do in college isn't going to be your favorite thing. Also it should be taught because it's not an easy book to understand and requires a lot of extra thinking to it.
4. Im glad the book picked up a little and it was actually a pretty decent book in the end.

In the Eyes of Someone else

Today in class we had a short discussion about a popular story and how different it would be if it was told in the eyes of a different character. Our example that we used in class was the childhood story about the three little pigs and the big bad wolf and this time the story was told in the eyes of the wolf. I started to think about popular stories or movies that could have the possibility to be completly different then the original if it were told in a different character's eyes. I chose Ghostworld as a movie that might be different if it was told differently. I was thinking about how different it would be if the whole movie was told through the eyes of Seymour. I was curious to see what he was thinking when he got stood up on his fake date, or when Enid started to become obsessive over him. I think that the flow of the movie would be entirely different through the eyes of Seymour. What do you guys think?

Creative Setting

One of the best settings ever created for a movie belongs to Avatar. First of it takes place on an entirely different planet which leaves a lot of imagination up to the director and producers when creating different things like plants and animals. Both the director and producers created Pandora, a magical planet in our solar system that is home to the Avatars. Also the setting allowes that director to show viewers social issues that may be occuring. The main plot of the movie is protecting this huge tree that lies in the middle of Pandora and is home to the Avatars. The humans that invade the planet want to take it over because of a valuable rock that is underneath the tree. The tree is what helps the Avatar and everything else on Pandora survive so its kinda like all the plants and animals on our planet Earth, so what can we do to make sure that we aren't like the people invading Pandora and ruin our planet?

It's not poms, it's boys basketball

When we first began to read Jane Eyre we discussed different perspectives on arguments between two people. We talked about weather someone should fight back to try to change things or whether someone should just mind their own business and let things be and hope that they get better over time. Both situations have their pros and cons but my personal opinon is if someone feels strongly about something or is getting abused they should fight back because nothing will change unless you stand up for yourself. Recently a real life event occured that connects to this very idea and connects to the time Jane Eyre stood up for herself. When Jane Eyre was about to leave for school in the beginning of the book she finally decided to stand up for herself and tell Ms. Reed exactly how she felt about everything that she has done to Jane. In the end Ms. Reed doesnt fight back because Jane argues so strongly that Ms. Reed can't fight back. My real life connection to this idea that was placed in the book is the controversey over the warm-up cd for basketball games. Both the girls and boys basketball team made cds for THEIR games with music THEY like and want to get jacked up to. But all of a sudden the poms team decides that they are gonna make their own cd so that they can perform before the game. Last time i checked people were mainly there to watch the basketball game and not watch poms sit there and clap there poms together to some music that no one can get jacked up to. Should the basketball team's fight back and try to get their own music even though they might get in trouble or should they just let it be and let the poms team start making decisions for the basketball teams??

Jane Eyre - Art motif

Today we searched throughout the book looking for motif's that Charlotte Bronte related to different types of art such as paintings, drawings or music. We discovered that when Charlotte wrote about art within the story, she described it with great detail. She wrote about every little detail so that the reader could get and exact picture of what she was talking about. Our group came to the conclusion that we thought she got so detailed with her descriptions about art because they were the only thing that she really enjoyed and felt comfortable around. Since she was so close to her art and enjoyed creating it, it was easier for her to remember and describe because she wanted to forget about the bad times she had while growing up and remember all the good ones, which was the art she created.

Visions of Childhood

I think that the movie The Sandlot depicts childhood very well because it shows both the good and the bad times children might have while growing up. The Sandlot especially shows how great friends are and how important they are in growing up. In the movie one of the boys gets in trouble when he loses a baseball that was very important to his father. Since he had such great friends they were able to work together and get the ball back so the boy wouldnt get in trouble with his father. The Sand Lot is a great example of how important friends are to your childhood because without them you wouldn't be able to get through some of the tough times that might occur.

The four stories that we read depicted childhood as a part of your life where your still confused about life and everything that goes on around you. The authors show that the children in each story think they know everything, but it isn't until something happens when they realized how little they actually know. I believe all the authors got the view of childhood right because for most of your life your parents guide you through things and it's not until they are gone when you realize how hard life really is.

Childhood Story

Just like every other kid in the world, my parents are the most important thing in my life. They are so important because they are always there when I need help and are always willing to give some wise words of advice. It's when they aren't around, is when I realize how much I miss them and need them. When I was around the age of 10 my parents left me and my brother home alone for a couple of days because they had to be somewhere. It was in those couple of days when I realized how young I really was and how much more I had to learn before I was ready to live on my own. I couldnt handle the responsibility of taking care of myself, my brother, and the house all by myself. Once my parents were back in control I started to learn from them because it won't be long until im out of the house and starting my own life and hopefully everything they taught me will make my life that much easier.
